Position Summary
  • The IT Application Engineer is responsible for the installation, implementation, deployment, and support of Firm Wide applications. This includes supporting the entire life-cycle of the Firm s standard suite of applications and systems, including research of new applications/technology, installation, deployment and advanced support and administration. Serve as an internal consultant to others in the department, particularly the IT operations and IT Help Desk staff. The Applications Engineer reports directly to the Senior Manager of Applications and Database Administration

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the installation, implementation, and deployment of firm wide applications and systems
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain application installation packages via scripts, application sequencing, GPO for use across various firm wide systems
  • Advanced level administration and support of firm wide applications and systems. Troubleshoot, analyse, and resolve issues in a client/server and web application environment. This includes working with other technical teams and/or escalating with vendor to resolve software and system related issues
  • Assist with Application Architect duties including GPO, login scripts, Citrix administration, advanced troubleshooting, and more
  • Lead take ownership and work on projects related to firm wide applications and systems including the core application packaging/deployment systems
  • Provide advanced technical and project support for other teams in IT including Citrix & Desktop, Practice Support, Business Applications, Development, Network & Technology, Operations and Help Desk
  • Provide backup technical administration, support, and coverage for the various firm wide systems including document management systems and other application systems
  • Monitor and act on escalated issues. Monitor and work on problem tickets and requests for relevant application and system areas. This includes timely acknowledgement of tickets / requests --providing a high level of responsiveness and Customer Service
  • Monitor and research software and systems for updates, version changes, and upgrades to assure firm wide standard applications are current / up-to-date and of optimum quality
  • Research and participate in presentations, demonstrations, and evaluations of new applications and technologies. Keep current with evolving technologies and application platforms. Present findings, recommendations and reports to the Senior Manager of Applications
  • Present all recommendations for applications, application development projects, upgrades, tasks, and projects to the Senior Manager of Applications and Database Administration
  • Produce, publish, and maintain technical, design, policies and procedures as it pertains to relevant applications and systems
  • Maintain skill level and knowledge through formal and informal means
  • All other duties as assigned
  • May volunteer or be selected to serve on special committees, work groups, project teams, or escalation teams related to various firmwide IT initiatives. Initiatives may be specific one-time events (e.G., research, testing, rollouts, upgrades, installations) or ongoing activities

  • Bachelor' s Degree or other training in IT discipline, or equivalent experience. Microsoft Certifications (MCSE) or other (i.E., Citrix) a plus. Additional training/certification preferred

  • Required: At least two years experience with installation, configuration, support, administration, and deployment of network, client/server, and web applications running on Windows Server environments and/or Windows 10. MS Office productivity tools (e.G., Office, Project, Visio). Ability to perform basic network troubleshooting
  • Preferred: Experience with Active Directory, Group Policies, PowerShell and Scripting. Experience with application packaging/sequencing such as Microsoft App-V, Microsoft SCCM, Symantec Ghost Solution Suite, or other software installation/packaging/deployment tools. Familiarity with Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp. Knowledge of Office 365, SaaS/cloud-based applications systems, VBA and .Net a plus. Experience with law firm, legal industry applications and systems

  • Strong analytical, as well as written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Able to solve problems using creative solutions. Ability to organize and prioritize workload and remain flexible in an environment of constantly changing priorities. Able to handle pressure resulting from competing and changing priorities
